FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sandy Cole Supporters attack GOP candidates for Governor, Congress, State House

When voters in the 62nd District received a late mailer from Personal PAC on behalf of Sandy Cole for State Representative, they were told ominously that her challenger in Tuesday’s Republican primary, Paul Mitchell, had a 100% rating from the Illinois Federation for Right to Life (IFRL).

The mailer, apparently sent only to female names in the district, boldly announces “Personal PAC Urges You to Vote NO ON PAUL MITCHELL.”

The Mitchell campaign hopes that Sandy’s friends aren’t painting with too broad a brush:  Republican gubernatorial candidates Jim Ryan, Kirk Dillard, Bill Brady, Adam Andrejewski, and Dan Proft, as well as Republican 8th District Congressional candidates Maria Rodriguez and Joe Walsh, have all likewise been given 100% ratings from the IFRL.

No fewer than eighteen Republican candidates for statewide or legislative positions in Lake County have been rated 100% by IFRL, also including U.S. Senate candidates John Arrington and Patrick Hughes, Lt. Governor candidates Dennis Cook, Jason Plummer and Randy White, as well as Treasurer candidate Dan Rutherford, Comptroller candidate William Kelly, State Representative candidates Cynthia Hebda, Dan Sugrue, and incumbent State Representative Jo Ann Osmond.

“I’m proud to be among such honorable Republican company as these people,” says Mitchell, “and I wonder why Sandy Cole wouldn’t be.  Perhaps she’d be more at home in a another party, one that doesn’t have a pro-life platform and leaders who are proud of their pro-life positions.”

Incumbent Rep. Sandy Cole, who has a perfect pro-abortion voting record, has often been the beneficiary of financial and in-kind support from Personal PAC, and local voters have seen such mailers before on behalf of 8th District Congresswoman Melissa Bean, a Democrat.

Mitchell’s campaign slogan is, “Running ON the Republican platform, and not away from it.”  Said Mitchell, “I’m little hurt that they didn’t also mention that I’m recommended by Illinois Citizens for Life, and endorsed by Family-PAC, Illinois Citizens for Ethics, and Eagle Forum of Illinois, which are all also pro-life organizations.  Still, I’m grateful to Personal PAC for this opportunity to highlight an important distinction between Mrs. Cole and myself.  I am in step with the Republican Party, and she is not.”

Eagle Forum of Illinois Endorses Paul Mitchell for State House Seat

January 13, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gurnee-IL: Eagle Forum of Illinois yesterday announced its endorsement of businessman Paul Mitchell in his race for nomination to the Illinois House in the 62nd District. “I am thrilled to receive Eagle Forum’s endorsement,” said Mitchell this morning. “The Eagle Forum is not only a powerful force in Illinois, but across our nation in the effort to foster conservative values in government,” Mitchell said. “I’m honored to receive this endorsement and proud to stand with the Forum in its efforts to strengthen families, fight for life, and protect our freedoms.”

In addition to Eagle Forum, Mitchell’s endorsements include Tax Accountability (the political arm of National Taxpayers United of Illinois), Illinois Conservatives, the Illinois Federation for Right to Life PAC, the Illinois Center Right Coalition, and numerous others.

Eagle Forum, a national organization of citizen-volunteers, participates in the public policymaking process. The Illinois division is today headed by former Illinois State Rep. Penny Pullen. Eagle Forum was originally founded and led by the conservative icon and legend, Phyllis Schlafly, now of St. Louis, previously of Alton, Illinois.

“Various Eagle Forum leaders in our state have examined the credentials and positions of the candidates seeking this nomination,” said Miss Pullen. “This was an easy choice. Paul Mitchell is challenging one of those incumbents who need to leave office. Her embrace of the radical Freedom of Choice Act just a year ago to invalidate every restriction Illinois has enacted to curb abortion casts doubt on her judgment and the principles she uses to make decisions about legislation affecting our families. Paul Mitchell is an outstanding candidate who can be counted on by families in the 62nd District to champion their interests. We salute his outspoken advocacy of the right to life and for protecting parental rights.

“Voters can trust Paul Mitchell, and we wish him well in the Feb. 2 GOP primary.”

Momentum builds as Mitchell campaign announces more endorsements

Gurnee, IL – Republican State Representative candidate Paul Mitchell today announced that his candidacy received several additional group and individual endorsements.

* Former State Representative Penny Pullen says she is “honored” to endorse Mitchell, not only for his solidly pro-life and pro-life family positions, but for his fiscally conservative stance. Pullen, who served in the General Assembly from 1977 to 1993, including as a member of the House GOP Leadership from 1983 onward, served as Republican National Committeewoman from Illinois from 1984 to 1988, and currently serves as president of the Republican Women of Wheeling Township and of the Eagle Forum of Illinois.

* Justice Barbara Gilleran Johnson endorses Mitchell’s candidacy because of his desire to work for laws that will protect the weakest and most vulnerable in our society. Justice Gilleran Johnson is a retired Justice of the Illinois Second District Appellate Court, who served as both an assistant attorney general assigned as Chief of the Crime Victims Compensation Division and as an assistant state’s attorney of Lake County assigned as Chief of the Juvenile Division. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Judges Association.

These endorsements are made in their personal capacities, and are not representative of the views of any of the organizations with which they are associated.

* In addition, Mitchell is endorsed by the Illinois Republican Assembly, an affiliate of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies. “We endorse Paul Mitchell in the IL62 House race against the GOP incumbent. Mitchell is pro-life, pro-family, and a foe of socialism,” said the group in a statement.

* Also endorsing Mitchell is the Lake County Tea Party organization: “Paul Mitchell is the best candidate for State Representative in the 62nd District. We wholeheartedly support his campaign and beliefs. He is Pro-Life, Pro-Family, Pro-Individual, and Pro-Freedom. He supports the Republican platform and does not run away from him it like his opponent. He understands the state has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.”

These endorsements are added to an impressive list of endorsements for the political newcomer, who was already endorsed by Tax Accountability, the political arm of the National Taxpayers’ Union of Illinois; as well as Illinois Conservatives; the 912 Candidates organization; the Illinois Federation for Right to Life; and seventeen other Republican leaders in Lake County and northern Illinois. Mitchell has also received the highest possible ratings from Illinois Citizens for Life, and the Illinois Family Institute.

“I’m truly honored at the faith being placed in me by Rep. Pullen, Justice Gilleran Johnson, and the members of these fine organizations.” Mitchell says, “I am determined to be worthy of their trust, and that of all the Republican primary voters of the 62nd District.”

The primary election will be held February 2nd.

Mitchell Congratulates Opponent on Planned Parenthood Endorsement

Gurnee, IL-Republican State Representative candidate Paul Mitchell today extended his congratulations to his opponent, State Representative Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake) of the Illinois 62nd District, on her endorsement by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (PPIA), the non-partisan political and advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood of Illinois. The endorsement was announced by PPIA on December 10th, 2009.

“I know that Mrs. Cole is too modest to make a big deal of this,” said Mitchell, “but I just think every Republican primary voter in the 62nd district would want to know about this endorsement.”

Planned Parenthood, in its various chapters and affiliates, is the world’s second-largest abortion provider, after the government of communist China. In the United States, Planned Parenthood takes in revenues of $1 billion dollars per year, one-third (or over $300 million) of which comes from federal, state and local governments. Planned Parenthood is also a leading advocate of President Obama’s healthcare reform initiative.

“Sandy Cole’s consistent support of increased state funding for abortion, her firm opposition to even the most modest legal restrictions on abortion, and of course her support for protecting abortion providers from malpractice and mandating sex education beginning in kindergarten, are, no doubt, the main reasons behind this endorsement,” said Mitchell.

Cole was one of few Republicans endorsed by PPIA, whose statewide endorsements in the February 2nd primary all went to Democratic candidates, although Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross was also endorsed. Earlier this year, the national Planned Parenthood organization awarded its prized Margaret Sanger Award to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The award, named for Planned Parenthood’s founder, the noted eugenics proponent Margaret Sanger, is given each year to the figure who has done the most to further abortion in America.

“I realize that there’s a lot of competition for the Sanger Award, but I’m sure that all Sandy’s friends will join me in pulling for her to receive the recognition she deserves for her support of abortion in 2010,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell has been endorsed by the Illinois Federation for Right to Life PAC.

Paul Mitchell picks up Four Group Endorsements

“This morning, everyone here at Paul Mitchell’s campaign office is in a celebratory mood,” said a campaign volunteer on Tuesday. “The list of endorsements is growing; we’ve just added four conservative groups to the endorsements list, with more to come!”

“These four endorsements,” says Mitchell, “show my credibility to my socially conservative base, my fiscally conservative allies, and to the reform/912/tea party movement.”

In a press release, The Illinois Federation for Right to Life Political Action Committee (IFRL-PAC) announced its endorsement of Paul Mitchell as Republican candidate for the sixty-second Illinois House District in the primary election to be held February, 2010.

“Not only has Mr. Mitchell expressed a desire to protect unborn children,” IFRL-PAC’s press release said, “but he has also indicated his support for the disabled as well as those endangered at the end of life.” The Illinois Federation for Right to Life is a statewide organization with local affiliates throughout the State of Illinois.

Paul’s candidacy was also endorsed by Tax Accountability, when he signed their Taxpayer Protection Pledge opposing any and all efforts to increase taxes. “Tax Accountability is the political action arm of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI). NTUI is the largest taxpayer protection organization in Illinois with over 30,000 members and supporters. NTUI was founded in 1976 and since that time we have helped Illinois citizens save over $88 billion in income and property taxes at the state and local levels.”

Paul is also endorsed by the Illinois Conservatives Facebook group, (see article here). Zach Oltmanns of Rockford says he organized the Facebook group a year ago, and that endorsement decisions are made by officers with feedback from group members.

“We make our decisions by a majority vote from our leadership group. The 599 members let me know who they believe we should endorse or look into,” Oltmanns wrote via email.

In addition, Paul is endorsed by the 912 Candidates organization; see Paul’s page on the 912 Candidate website, here.

MITCHELL RELEASES ENDORSEMENTS LIST

List includes two statewide candidates, current and former political leaders.

Paul Mitchell, a Republican candidate for State Representative in the 62nd District, today released the following list of individual endorsements:

  • Mr. Adam Andrzejewski

  • Mr. Ken Arnold
  • Mr. Thom Brasuell
  • Mr. Michael Carbone
  • Mr. Don Castella
  • Mr. Phil Collins
  • Hon. Ralph Davis
  • Mr. Frederick Dempsey, esq.
  • Dr. Sandra Dempsey, M.D.
  • Mr. Peter Karlovics, esq.
  • Mrs. Irene Napier
  • Mrs. Bonnie Quirke
  • Col. & Mrs. Raymond True
  • Rev. Richard Valkanet
  • Mr. Joe Walsh
  • Rev. Randy White

Each of these endorsements is from the endorser personally, and is not representative of the organizations or offices they are associated with.

Adam Andrezejewski is a leading Republican candidate for Illinois governor. Randy White is a Republican candidate for Illinois Lieutenant Governor. Joe Walsh is a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in the 8th district. Ralph Davis is a former mayor of the Village of Round Lake Beach. Phil Collins is Executive Director of the Illnois Center Right Coalition and a candidate for State Representative in the 17th district. Ken Arnold is a former congressional candidate, a Warren Township Precinct Committeeman, and a former Warren Township Republican Chairman. Don Castella is the Vernon Hills Township Republican Chairman. Peter Karlovics is a Gurnee attorney, a Warren Township Precinct Committeeman, and a former Warren Township Republican Chairman. Raymond True is Chairman of the Republican Assembly of Lake County, and a retired U.S. Air Force officer. Bonnie Quirke and Irene Napier are well-known prolife leaders in Lake and McHenry Counties. Richard Valkanet is pastor of Living Waters Assemblies of God Church in Grayslake. Thomas Brasuell is a Grayslake small business owner. Frederick Dempsey is an attorney living in Mundelein; his wife, Dr. Sandra Dempsey, is a Mundelein physician.

Mitchell, 47, a Hainesville resident, is seeking the GOP nomination in the 62nd district, in central Lake County. That seat is currently held by State Representative Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake) who is seeking re-election to her third term. Saying that he is “running on the Republican platform, and not away from it,” Mitchell cites Cole’s votes on spending, increased environmental restrictions, new business regulations, and increased abortion funding, as well her contributions from labor unions, environmental groups, and pro-choice organizations as reasons why he is seeking the office.

Mitchell also criticized what he called Cole’s “lack of leadership” on key issues. “Sandy Cole has authored only one piece of legislation during her two terms, a new restriction on local businesses. She has provided zero leadership on cutting taxes or on ethical reform. I hope to change that when I go to Springfield.”

Says Mitchell, “I’m immensely grateful to all these good people for their endorsements, and many more like them who have offered their support and encouragement to my campaign. I look forward to seeing this list grow into the thousands on primary election day, February 2nd, 2010.”

Paul Mitchell Calls on Sandy Cole to Enforce the Law

Parental Notification Law Should be Enforced

Hainesville, IL-Paul Mitchell, candidate for Illinois House Representative in District 62, calls upon his opponent Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake), to use her influence as a State Representative and call on Governor Quinn to direct the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to enforce the Parental Notification Law that was passed in 1995.

Parental notification is required to give a child an aspirin at school; if a teenager attempts to buy a gun; or tries to get ears pierced. Certainly, abortion is just as serious a decision to make as any of those. This law, passed in 1995, has never been implemented due to a variety of obstacles. But now the obstacles have been cleared, the courts have upheld the law, the rules for judicial bypass written, and it only remains for the state government to put the law into effect.

Sandy Cole’s voting record on this issue is not good. In her first term, she worked on a bill that would have gutted the this law. In the current session, she voted in committee for a bill that would have entirely repealed parental notification. “She calls herself pro-family,” said Mitchell, “but when Mrs. Cole uses that term, it doesn’t mean what it means to most voters in the 62nd District.”

Paul Mitchell urges Sandy Cole to use her influence and contact Governor Quinn to direct the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to enforce the law; which reflects the conscience of citizens with pregnant teenage-age children, who desperately need the counsel of adults who love them at such a critical moment in their lives.

State Rep Candidate Applauds Parental Notification Ruling

Lake County, IL-Today, the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling barring enforcement of 1995 Illinois law that (in the words of the Sun-Times) “says minors can’t get abortions without telling their parents or getting a court’s OK to bypass the requirement.”

Paul Mitchell, a Hainesville man seeking the Republican nomination for State Representative in the 62nd District in central Lake County, applauded the ruling.

“Let’s be clear,” Mitchell said. “This ruling is not about abortion. It’s about one of the most basic principles of healthcare: that parents are responsible for the care of their minor children, and that they have a right to be informed about medical procedures being performed on them. Finally, 14 years after its passage, this much-needed law can be enforced.”

Mitchell’s opponent, State Representative Sandy Cole, voted in committee for a bill that would have had, among other provisions, the effect of repealing this law. “That’s an extreme position on abortion that the people of Illinois rejected long ago, and that the courts have now rejected as well,” Mitchell said.

“State Rep Candidate Challenges Opponent To sign “Tax Pledge”

District 62 Illinois House candidate Paul Mitchell of Hainesville today met with conservative activist Grover Norquist, head of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR), and signed the ATR’s pledge to oppose and vote against tax increases.

Hundreds of state and federal legislators across the nation have signed this pledge, including 24 members of the Illinois House.

Norquist said that his organization has asked every legislator in the nation to take the pledge. “There is no one who hasn’t been asked, repeatedly,” Norquist said.

“Not only is Sandy Cole an extremist on abortion, but she’s coy about raising taxes, too,” Mitchell said. “She’s voted for the spending packages that include the tax increases, while decrying anyone who points out that she’s voted for tax increases. And she has repeatedly refused to promise not to do it again.”

“I’m calling on Sandy Cole to sign the ATR’s tax pledge,” Mitchell said.

Paul Mitchell is seeking the Republican nomination for State Representative in the 62nd District, which includes all or parts of Gurnee, Grayslake, Hainesville, Lake Villa, Round Lake Beach, Third Lake, Wildwood, and other villages in central Lake County. His opponent is two-term incumbent Sandy Cole, a Republican.

“Overtaxing the people is immoral” says Lake County Man

Paul Mitchell, of Hainesville, a candidate for the Republican nomination for State Representative in the 62nd District, spoke before an estimated 200 people this past Independence Day at the Palatine Tea Party about the importance of morality in government.

Quoting John Adams famous remark that “Our Constitution was made only for a religious and moral people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other,” Mitchell told the cheering crowd, “I say, taxing the people into destitution is immoral!” Mitchell went on to stress the importance of morality as an element of the conservative agenda. He told the crowd that they must work for a culture of life, a culture of liberty, and a culture of prosperity.

Mitchell told the crowd, gathered under rainy skies for the demonstration, that they must find conservative candidates to support, even if that meant running for office themselves, as he is doing.

Later, Mitchell explained that he is running against two-term Republican Repesentative Sandy Cole of Grayslake, whom he describes as “a social liberal”, noting that she had this session had voted in committee for an extremely pro-abortion bill, which later died in the House.

“That bill,” explained Mitchell, “would have repealed Illinois’ parental notification law on abortion, it would have mandated sex education beginning in kindergarten, and it would have protected abortionists who harm women from malpractice suits, among other bad points. Whether you count yourself as pro-life or pro-choice, that bill was pro-abortion, and extremely so. I don’t believe that Lake County voters want a pro-abortion extremist representing them in Springfield.”

A spokesman for his campaign said, “Paul Mitchell is a regular guy who is stepping out of his comfort zone to offer an alternative to the arrogance of the entrenched liberals on both sides of the aisle. Paul is “change you can believe in”; changing from a culture of death to a culture of life; from a culture of crushing taxation on the middle class and the poor to a culture of keeping what you earn; from a culture of oppression to a culture of liberty. Three things that always accompany tyranny, he says, are economic depression, a culture of death, and religious oppression, and where we find one of these, the others will be advancing.”

We are experiencing that in Illinois, says Mitchell, but it is not too late to turn it around.
